THE AREA & ITS SURROUNDINGS
Crossgate is the end of the old Bude Canal. It is a small hamlet containing the old wharf master's cottage, canal basin, canal storage barns (of which the studio is one) and two farm houses.
The River Tamar flows along past Crossgate, defining the Devon and Cornwall border. Although the Studio Barn is in Cornwall the Accommodation Barns are just over on the other side of the river - which makes them in Devon! However they have a Cornish postal address which makes them in Cornwall!
The area is perfect for walking as the roads are quiet and almost flat. The Accommodation Barns have their own carp fishing lake which is free for non-participating partners to use. There is also a length of the River Tamar which free to fish on when staying with us (season permitting).
The fields around Crossgate are populated by sheep, cattle and horses. There are alpaccas or sheep around the accommodation barns. All in all it is a beautiful tranquil area of Cornwall which is only 8 miles as the crows flies to the coast.
